Avidemux is a free video editor that understands numerous formats. Cropping videos is just as easy as extracting the audio track. Edits that you make to a file can be saved as a script and thus conveniently applied to a large number of other videos.

The freeware allows the import of AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG 1/2, MPEG 4, H263(+), MOV/3GP, OGM, as well as MP3, WMA, AAC and WAV. Many other popular formats and codecs are also supported.

All available versions of Avidemux can be found on the download page. There you will also find further details on the individual versions.

General note on 32- and 64-bit versions! Many Windows downloads are available as 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Here we show you how the systems differ and whether you use Windows 32-bit or 64-bit. If you value a system-friendly installation, rely on portable versions. These do not write anything to the Windows Registry and can even be started from the USB stick - hence the name. These versions are marked as "Portable" by us.
Avidemux does not only master the standard functions. You can also use the software for the following use cases: edit MKV, rotate videos, merge videos, remove audio track from video, replace audio track in video, edit audio track in video, save audio track from video as MP3

Avidemux falls into the category of semi-professional media design. Accordingly, it has to compete with other free representatives of this market segment, such as Shortcut or VSDC Free Video Editor. Whether the freeware can hold its own against its competitors, you will find out in our test.
