The French government is going to introduce a tax on all electronic products with the ability to surf the Internet. Of the proceeds will fund national cultural projects - film, music and artwork. The initiator of the proposal was Pierre Lescure - businessman and former head of the private television channel Canal Plus.

He was supported by the Minister of Culture Aurélie Filippetti, saying that the tax is likely to be included in the budget law, which will present to Parliament in November. France's economy is going through hard times. According to the Commission, the country's GDP will fall by 0.1%, while unemployment will rise to 10.9%.
