The State Duma Committee on Property recommended approval of the amendments to the Law on Foreign Investment, which is intended to include a large number of strategic sites, publications, and television and radio broadcasting corporations.
Strategic enterprises differ from the usual fact that foreign investors can not buy more than 10 percent of the voting shares of such companies without the authorization of the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the Government Commission on Foreign Investment. Therefore, if the bill is approved, officials will be able to ban virtually all major deals in the industry. According to deputies, large sites need to be considered are those that are accessed by at least 20 million users per month.
